Please checkout Chalkboard Math. It's a perfect app for elementary school students as it allows them to practice basic math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).

And the best part...It's a free application, with no annoying advertisements.

If you like the app please spread the word, and rate it 5 stars.

The app is available on Apple's AppStore at:

I am an elementary teacher and use fluencyfinder to save time. It is an iphone/ipad app that allows you to quickly assess a student's word per minute reading fluency. Fluencyfinder replaces the paper/pencil/stopwatch assessment with your phone or ipad. You can focus on the student and not the process. I couldn't live without it!

My son, a recent CS graduate, has developed an iPad and iPhone app called Timed Test Arcade. A local primary school did a 30 days pilot where 3rd and 4th grade students took one 100 problem timed test each day. Student accuracy improved by over 40% and speed of answering the problems improved by over 25%. The students were motived to use the app both at school and at home as they were rewarded with 2 gaming tokens for each 100 problem timed test taken. The teacher loved the app as she could see the students progress each day without manually grading each test or subjecting her students to grading each others paper. This is a great app and it works great in helping students gain proficiency in their math facts. Check it out a. Thanks! http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/timed-test-arcade/id515358594?mt=8&uo=4

For learn-to read apps for Kindergarten, 1st grade and special ed you may want to check out Reading Raven for iPad. And, for great educational apps in general, Kindertown is a fantastic resource!

Hi Girtona, We are working on an ESE section with our ESE department. If you click the blog at the top of this page, the most recent post was about apps for ESE teachers. In addition, we have an ESE section on the Middle and High School App Lists.
    Thanks again!

Fantastic, thanks so much. This is so helpful. I have found the ipad to be very helpful for my students with Autism. Is there any way that you can create an ESE section?

I wanted to introduce a new science app for kids ages 6-10l.

Plants HD delivers high-quality interactive content about plants and their lifecycle. The app provides an in-depth look into topics such as seeds, germination, pollination, flowers, trees, fruits, and dispersal.

Plants HD is an audio-visual exploration of plants and their lifecyle that is designed to be fun and entertaining

for all ages. You can flip through curated HD photos on the various plant topics, scroll through content or have it
read to you, listen to relaxing music, and test your knowledge by taking the quiz. The Did You Know section features interesting facts like - A strawberry is not a berry and a banana is a berry!

An engaging, fun and information packed app called "Plants HD" is available at http://bitly.com/vfUWTU

Awesome Math app to help teach kids the concept of numbers! Base Ten Number Blocks is a simple app that allows users to manipulate base ten blocks (ones, tens, hundreds) to assist them in solving addition and subtraction problems.

One wonderful new book app series my school is using in the classroom is called "Millie Was Here." Not only does it offer a read-along mode for beginning readers, but it also has lots of very intuitive interactivity which helps develop younger children's motor skills. The entire premise of the book teaches kids to use their imaginations. We originally introduced classes to the first book (which is free!!), called "Meet Millie." It was such a hit with the kids that we, got the second book, "Millie & The Lost Key" as well. We've found that it encourages even our most reluctant readers to read!

A new education game for the iPhone and iPad was recently released called "Story Wheel". It is an interactive game that helps kids build their imagination as they create new stories. Players spin the story wheel and land on an image, they then have 30 seconds to record a portion of a story that is built upon by the other players. At the end of the game, you can play back your story while you enjoy the beautifully animated images.

Best of all, it is free and available on the app store.

    The Website is

And a video can be found here.

Hi Jenni. We are unsure of the cost of the cost because the cost changes too often on the App store. In addition, each app is not installed on all of our costs. This was just a comprehensive list.
